Practical Hermeneutics
On Wednesday, 8 July 2020, IFGF Sabah Sarawak held an online training on Practical Hermeneutics with Ps. Jusak Kang, senior pastor of IFGF Purwokerto. 55 people participated in the training with 39 participants from IFGF Kinabalu and 16 participants from IFGF Sabah Sarawak.
Practical Hermeneutics was one of the distant learnings held for pastors, leaders and church members. Hermeneutics is a theory and methodology of interpretation, especially of biblical texts, wisdom literature, and philosophical texts. Ps. Jusak Kang emphasized the importance of bible study to avoid misunderstanding. Main points that can be applied for bible interpretation are:
- Meticulous reading
- Compare with the native language
- Learn the cultural and time context
- Differentiate between Biblical Law (Prohibition) and Biblical Principles (Choices)
The ability to correctly interpret the Bible will help believers to stand firm in the truth and not be swayed by various teachings. This is especially important for pastors and leaders. Thus, may this online training equipped the participants in finding the truth and sharing the Gospel to more people.
Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.
