UNLEASH Conference 2020

UNLEASH Conference 2020

Unleash Conference was a 2 day virtual journey, held on 20-21 November, where young professionals aged 22-35 years old can learn how to be a complete individual, unleashing the full potential that God has given to them. The conference was specifically designed for university graduates, independent women, hardworking men, those who are yet to be married and those who are still looking for work.

During the transition from university to work life, many of us have started questioning the purpose of our life and existence. This transition is not always an easy one. Unleash Conference is the church’s response to help the young people during this transition. Therefore the topics discussed in the conference were variative and relevant, from the current trends between young professionals to the changes in this pandemic. The church wants to make sure that the young professionals can stay on the right course by being a friend, a community and a brother in Christ. One of the main points discussed during the conference is the importance of adapting and realizing the potential that God has given in our lives and how to fulfill the calling and purpose each of us have.

The event started on November 21 with foreword and prayer by Ps. Jimmy Oentoro, continued with 4 different topics:

  1. Own The Risk (get out of your comfort zone) by Daniel Mananta
During this session, participants learnt how to be brave in taking the first step and to own the risk of their choices. Also discussed were things that might hinder their steps such as expectations or comparisons
  2. The Real Deal (is there a hole in my life?) by Ps. Joshua Artono dan Ps. Philemon Kharis
During this session, participants were asked to identify “holes” in their lives such as bitterness, past rejection, trauma, pain from comparisons. It is very important to realize these holes as they will impact our ability to make the right choices, especially when we are in crossroads.
  3. Generation Gap by Ps. Andre Tjhin
Ps. Andre talked about the big gaps owned by young professionals in their ministry, work, family and society, which is quite concerning. These gaps need to be identified and worked on appropriately to minimize problems in the future.
  4. Managing Stress by Pinkan Margaretha dan Henny Adisumarto
Has stress become a big part of your daily life?

During this session, both speakers shared their tips for managing stress and how to implement stress management especially during conflicts. The speakers also discussed the importance of balancing life between relationship, work, family and ministry.

On the second day, some of topics discussed were as follow:

  1. Perfect is Overrated (for women) by Stacy Oentoro dan Uthe
As the world is changing and becoming more social media oriented, the challenge to compare ourselves with the image of “perfection” has becoming greater. This illusion of perfection in how we look & live as a wife, a girlfriend or a daughter might alter the way we behave unconsciously. Through this session, the speakers reminded us that God wants us to pursue God’s calling for our life instead of pursuing perfection.
  2. Supermen are not dead (for men) by Ps. Indra Tan & Indra Puspa
Many men has lost their “super” quality as they are trapped in their comfort zone which is shaped by the world’s expectation, social media and even their own idealism. In this session, participants were taught how to build the true manhood qualities that have been given by God.
  3. More of Us by Maya Septha & Krisna and Stacy Oentoro & Alex Ward
2 couples talked for this session about the things that need to be prepared before going into relationship, either dating or marriage. They discussed myths of marriage, the importance of financial stability before marriage, and answered the question “How to know if he/she is the one?”.
  4. Unleash by Ps. Raymond Njotorahardjo
“UNLEASH and be the real you”. Ps. Raymond emphasized that our priority is to be true to ourselves in all seasons of life. Young generations should not be trapped in empty idealism and expectation but should be able to adapt to changes, situations and cultures.

During the conference, participants were encouraged to join After Party sessions at the closing of each day. Through Zoom they could participate in games led by the MC. The after party was also set up as a space where participants could get to know each other and build their networks.
