Entrepreneurial Leadership During Covid-19
On Monday, 15 – Friday, 19 June 2020, Harvest International Theological Seminary (HITS) held a Zoom live webinar titled “Entrepreneurial Leadership During Covid-19” with competent speakers from different backgrounds; Imam Usman (CPO & Co-Founder of RuangGuru.com), Billy Kurniawan (CEO of Janji Jiwa Coffee), Andreas Nawawi (Senior Advisor of PT Lippo Karawaci Tbk), Helmy Yahya (Motivational Speaker) and a special guest speaker, Pinpin Bhaktiar (Founder of SECI Institute). This live webinar was moderated by Dr. Jimmy Oentoro (Chairman of HITS) and assisted by Dr. Hans Silalahi (Director of Post Graduates & Head of D.Th program). Dr. Jimmy was also one of the speakers in this webinar and he shared 3 entrepreneurial sessions.
This event was held for 2 hours per day for the Executive Course participants and 4 hours per day for Full Audit Course participants, including students of masters and doctoral programs who joined this webinar as part of their study units. 150 people attended the sessions on Monday – Thursday and around 250 people attended on Friday.
A broad range of topics were shared by the speakers, including vision and mission, innovation, business planning, business strategy, marketing and sustainability in doing business. Furthermore the speakers explored the what and how of an entrepreneur, especially in dealing with the changes happening during this pandemic season.
On the last day, a very interesting topic on “Personal Branding” and “Pastorpreneur” was discussed. It is indeed a new topic yet prophetic. It was a discussion on how a business can keep growing and becoming a blessing to many people, and for those reasons, innovation and perseverance are important in business. To be a successful entrepreneur, one needs to have an open mind and be a constant learner.
The sessions during the 5 days webinar are as follow;
- Session 1 – Dr. Jimmy Oentoro : “Entrepreneur’s Creed”
A session on how to seize and create opportunities beyond our resources. Dr. Jimmy also talked about calculated risks, win-win relationships, values and lifelong learning.
- Session 2 – Billy Kurniawan : “Brand Profile”
A session that talked about Kopi Janji Jiwa, an Indonesian coffee chain with 800 outlets in 2 years. Billy shared about the passion and dreams he had while starting this business.
- Session 3 – Dr. Jimmy Oentoro : “Entrepreneurial Leadership During Covid-19”
A session that discussed the importance of entrepreneurial leadership in the midst of social, economy, political and psychological changes, especially in risk taking, seeing opportunities and innovating. Dr. Jimmy explained the importance of resilience, one’s ability to assess, to control, to thrive and bounce back from disruption.
- Session 4 – Andreas Nawawi : “Change or Disruption”
A session that talked on the importance of building entrepreneurship through creative means, to be courageous and be able to read the momentum. A strong motivation is needed to be able to bring impact to its surrounding.
- Session 5 – Pinpin Bhaktiar : “Strategic Entrepreneurship”
A session on balancing the opportunities and excellence.
- Session 6 – Pinpin Bhaktiar : “Entrepreneurial Business Model”
A practical session on building the 9 segments of business.
- Session 7 – Pinpin Bhaktiar : “Entrepreneurial Business Model as Wisdom in Christianity”
A session that explained about innovation, benefits and grit and unfolded how entrepreneurship exists in the Bible (Genesis 1:26, Romans 12:2, Ecclesiastes 16.
- Session 8 – Iman Usman : “Learning from Building Ruang Guru”
A session on the history of RuangGuru.com which has become South East Asia’s largest online education provider which is full of innovative and out of the box ideas.
- Session 9 – Helmy Yahya : “How to Create Personal Branding”
A session that talked about creating personal branding needed for finding jobs, work promotion, business investor, political relationship, spouse, etc. Personal branding is important to differentiate yourself from others.
- Session 10 – Dr. Jimmy Oentoro : “Pastorpreneur”
A session that explained the role of a pastor is not only to love the house of God but also to have skills in growing business which will also impact the Kingdom of God. This last session was closed with an impartation prayer to all participants
