Regional Conference 2022 Region-XII
Regional Conference for Region XII Sumatra – Kalimantan was held online on Monday, May 16, 2022. It was a full day event held from 09.00 until 16.30 WIB. Although the conference was still held online for the 3rd year in a row, this year’s event was special due to some circumstances.
This 2022 Region XII Conference was participated by 500 people (L-0 to L-3) from 55 cities. This is the largest number of participants ever for a Regional Conference. During the conference we also appointed 9 church leaders (lay pastors and reverend pastors). There were also 40 pastors from RLC Eastern Indonesia (Region XIV) who attended the conference.

The main speakers for this conference were Ps. Sammy Hartanto (President of IFGF Global), Ps. Jonathan Kasmin (General Secretary of IFGF Global), Ps. Jimmy Oentoro (Founder & Head of Apostolic Team of IFGF Global) and Ps. Erna Iskandar (VP of Region XII).
The conference started with a praise and worship led by IFGF Praise Medan at 09.00 WIB. Followed by the first session on “Leadership and Church Health” from Ps. Sammy Hartanto. In this session, Ps. Sam highlighted the fact that a healthy church is a growing church. There are 5 pillars that we need to pay attention to; product, legal, system, communication, cash flow and mission. In communication, there are several factors that we need to emphasize and develop:
- Your word will create your world
- Need to, have to, want to
- Not all questions need to be answered
- Speak well by learning well
- Stopping a conversation is easier than you think
- Always answer gently
- Gossip kills, so kill the gossips
- Be filled with the holy spirit
- Don’t say yes too easy
- Speech and manner are one
After the first session, an appointment ceremony for 9 church leaders in Sumatra and Kalimantan was held. The new leaders were:
- Reverend Pastor Wilun Widjaya – Lampung
- Reverend Pastor Sutanto – Bengkalis
- Reverend Pastor Lukman Nainggolan – Cinta Damai (Duri)
- Reverend Pastor Wilson Napitupulu – Duri
- Reverend Pastor Marina Panjaitan – Duri
- Reverend Pastor Horas Sianturi – Pematang Siantar
- Lay Pastor Erwin Setiawan Panjaitan – Medan
- Lay Pastor Johny Andrew Sijabat – Pematang Siantar
- Lay Pastor Yulianto – Samarinda
Prior to their appointment, these leaders have passed a written test and the Pastoral Introduction Training that was led by Ps. Erna Iskandar (VP of Region XIV). Let us support our brethren in prayers so that they stay faithful in their calling and able to produce good fruits in their ministry.
After a lunch break and game session, the conference continued with the 2nd session with Ps. Jimmy Oentoro who talked about “Post Pandemic Church”. Ps. Jimmy discussed how a church can grow after the pandemic. A healthy church will focus on building its muscles rather than its mass gathering. We should check whether our leaders’ spiritual muscles are still strong.
- Life Structure – is there growth within the church structure, family and business? Our focus is revival instead of mere religious activities.
- Incarnation – can others see Christ through our lives and the church? (Matthew 25 : 40).
In the late afternoon, Ps. Jonathan Kasmin led the 3rd session on “Leadership Challenge”. Some of the challenges in leadership are:
- Honing effectiveness
- Inspiring others
- Developing employees
- Leading a team
- Guiding change
- Managing Stakeholders
That concluded the Region XII Conference for 2022. The participants were blessed with the teaching and we hope the materials will enrich their ministries.
