Keep Your Prayers Simple

Keep Your Prayers Simple

And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans,
for they think they will be heard because of their many words.
Do not be like them, for your Father knows
what you need before you ask him

Matthew 6:7-8 NIV

Does the length of our prayers and their beautifully arranged words make our prayers be heard and answered more by God? Absolutely not! God is far more interested with a plain, simple prayer that comes from our deepest heart. Even when we come straight to the point, God will gladly listen to our prayers.

In Matthew 6:5-8, Jesus reminds us about prayer;

5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.

6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you

7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.

8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

Remember that we don’t need to persuade God about things we need. He knows everything so we need to come with a humble heart, tell him about our needs and most importantly, to show your faith that HE IS ABLE to answer your prayers.

Talk to God like He is a friend, a beloved one. Use words that you use daily and be free to convey your feelings and thoughts. God will not be annoyed if you pour out your negative emotions such as disappointment, anger, worry and sadness. Don’t forget to keep this prayer conversation open throughout the day!
