Intergenerational Leadership
On 28 February 2021, Now and Next Movement held their second webinar titled “Church in the New Landscape” with a theme on “Intergenerational Leadership”. Now and Next Movement is a communion of Christ’s body with a mission to pass on the Legacy of Revival between generations through Intergenerational Leadership and International Discipleship. Now and Next Movement was born from a church leaders alliance who gathered to commemorate their 40th year and to seek His heart to continue working in His movement for the next 40 years.
900 participants from 39 church synods participated in this Intergenerational Leadership webinar. Dr. Bambang Budijanto (Founder and coach Leaders for Leaders) and Ps. Sam Hartanto (Senior Pastor of IFGF Bandung and Secretary of IFGF Global ) were the speakers for this event.
The webinar was aiming to answer and explain questions on intergenerational leadership, its application and suggestions for leaders such as;
- Is there any “best” model in intergenerational leadership?
- How to shift from “regeneration” (replacement) to “intergeneration” (together)?
- How to embrace and involve the younger generations who are very different from ours?
- How can leaders from various generations collaborate and lead together?
In the session “Intergenerational Leadership Model” delivered by Dr. Bambang Budijanto, he explained the essence of this leadership model, its effectiveness and importance for an organisation. Furthermore, he described the evaluation and measurement process of an organisation’s intergenerational culture.
The next topic on “Raising Next Generation Leaders” was delivered by Ps. Sam Hartato where he explained the things required to build agreement and trust between generations, as well as practical steps to raise leaders from the next generation. Ps. Sam also discussed some false myths in generational transition;
- to appear young doesn’t mean you connect well
- your position guarantees respect
- more time equals building relationship
- my upbringing worked for me so it will indeed work for them
Therefore Ps. Sam emphasized that a leader should own 3Cs, Clarity, Culture and Cultivate.
God loves each generation and thus, it is important for us to work together in spreading the Good News.
“And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins.”
