GENERATION MINISTRY IN THE MIDST OF COVID
To equip pastors, coordinators, & leaders in the TYC & Kids ministries during this pandemic, DPW Sumatra held an online Strategic Training Session on the 10th of May, and to rave responses, with over 150 participants from different parts of Sumatra.
Chairperson of the Sumatran Regional Representative Council and VP of Region-1, Ps Erna Iskandar welcomed speakers Ps Ancella Gunawan, an IFGF Global Children’s Pastor, and Ps Victor Repi, an IFGF Jakarta TYC pastor.
Ps Ancella discussed the importance of teachers having to think even more creatively on how to teach children with her segment titled ‘5 Reasons Why this Pandemic Period is a Precious Time’. Her points:
- Now’s the time to go back to basics and focus on connecting with God intentionally to make disciples.
- Now’s the time where we show who/what is really important, because we’ll be sure to always make time for the things you care for most.
- Now’s the time to talk about God. Sometimes the fewest words have the biggest impact.
- Now’s the time to grow creatively and learn new things, even if through failure.
- Now’s the time to be productive, effective, but to also enjoy.
Ps Victor discussed the difficulty of having to curate creative content to reach teens, and offered curriculums as well as tips on impactful content creation during this pandemic; some activities currently being carried out are:
- TYC Instagram Live (OBS Program) every Friday night with quality speakers.
- Weekly online zoom hangouts.
- College Talk online with in-depth QnA sessions.
- Generation Day: Super Sunday Worship Session.
- TYC Leaders 2-day Online Camp Online.
- Call/Chat/Visitation: TYC members with data limitations still need to be supported.
All activities mentioned above can truly strengthen a teen’s creativity as well as their faith in God wherever they may be.
