THE DANGERS OF NOT LISTENING TO GOD’S VOICE
God Still Speaks Today!
God did not only speak to Samuel in the past, but He still speaks to His children today. God never stops revealing His will to His people through His Word, the Holy Spirit, or other means. Jesus Himself said:
“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”
(John 10:27 NIV)
This means that every child of God can hear His voice and be led by Him. However, the issue is not whether God still speaks but whether we are ready to listen. If we no longer hear God’s voice, it is not because He is silent but because something in our lives may be blocking us from recognizing His voice.
If we continue to ignore God’s voice, three major dangers can occur in our lives:
1. Losing Direction in Life
Without God’s voice as our compass, we can easily become lost in life’s decisions. We will rely on our limited wisdom, which puts us at risk of making the wrong choices and damaging our future.
“There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end, it leads to death.”
(Proverbs 14:12 NIV)
2. A Hardened and Insensitive Heart
The more we ignore God’s voice, the more our hearts become numb to His correction and guidance. This can lead us into sin without feeling guilty, ultimately drawing us further away from God’s presence.
“They made their hearts as hard as flint and would not listen to the law or to the words that the Lord Almighty had sent by His Spirit through the earlier prophets.”
(Zechariah 7:12a NIV)
3. Losing God’s Protection and Blessings
When we do not listen to God’s voice, we walk alone without His protection. We may fall into the enemy’s traps, experience failure, or lose the peace and blessings that God has prepared for us.
“But my people would not listen to me; Israel would not submit to me.
So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices!”
(Psalm 81:11-12 NIV)
Listening to God’s voice is the key to living under His guidance, protection, and blessings. If we feel that His voice is becoming distant, we must seek Him again through prayer, His Word, and obedience so that we do not fall into these dangers. God longs to speak to us—are we ready to listen?
