Mission Outreach to the Physically Disabled Community in Sierra Leone, West Africa
Beneficiary: Single Leg Amputees
A Design Course in Sustainable Farming had just completed at SLASA Football Garden – March 21st – 26th 2022.
The training focuses on strategies of diversity and self-reliance in agriculture production, with maximum utilization of local resources and protection of the environment through the four pillars; Sustainable Agriculture, Regenerative Agriculture, Agro-ecology, and Functional Design in Permaculture.
- Sustainability – we looked at maintaining viability through practical approach in soil improvement (compost making, raised bed, Bokashi preparation)
- Regenerative – We re-create, regrow to make better by encouraging participants to manage own kitchen garbage for composting, use water plastics for nursing fruit trees, the use of saw dust, mulch and cover crops for soil nutrients
- Ecology – We taught to maintained minimal damage to the environment by growing more trees than cutting them, grow fruit trees and rear livestock for biodiversity and healthy community.
- Functional design – We introduced elements that are operational and fit within a design, like managing small space or backyard garden, preparation of raised bed, water catchments and storage in the garden, measurement , contours and flow forms to slow water, store and distributes.
The design course is run through by Ps Mambud; an ARI Graduate in Sustainable Agriculture from Japan – 2018 also an IFGF Deputy Region 5 Servant Leader.
About 15 amputees participants from five districts (Western area, Makeni, Bo, Kenema and Kailahun) are beneficiaries of the Design Course. The training is possible through supports received from friends and UK farmers.
Sincerely
Ps Mambud
