Leading The Next Generation
On Thursday, 10 June 2020 a global webinar with Ps. How from Heart of God (HOG) Church Singapore was held to equip pastors and leaders in reaching out and leading the next generation. Around 350 IFGF leaders joined the 2 sessions webinar in which Ps. Daniel Runtuwene assisted in interpreting to ensure the participants understand the materials shared by Ps. How.
The first session talked about leading the next generation. Ps How emphasized that leaders should create leaders, not followers. God wants us to plan for at least 3 generations like shown in the Bible, that God is God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The generation below us should give birth to another generation.
Ps. How reminded leaders to not use people to build the church but to use the church to build people. A great leader must dare to do these three things:
- Dare to dream
- Dare to do
- Dare to die
“To die” in this context means to leave the stage so the next generation can rise up. John 12:24 says that only when it dies, it will produce much fruit. When we retire, the church has 10,000 members but 10 years after we retire, the church only has 1000 members or is it the other way? The answer to this question will reveal our hearts as leaders as this was what happened to Saul. He wanted to kill David who was his successor. To reach the next generation, we need to have the heart of a father.
In the next session, Ps. How talked about the online church. He discussed what might happen when this pandemic is over and the member wants to come back to church. Ps. How highlighted on the “non-downloadables”, the difference between online church and a physical church. The mistake we made is to make a recording of a physical church and bring it online. We need to differentiate between the 2 platforms.
After sharing his material, Ps. How opened a Q&A session which was moderated by Ps. Joshua Artono and the webinar ended with a virtual photo session with all participants.
May the material given in this webinar be useful for IFGF leaders in raising up the next generations.
