CELEBRATING 170 YEARS OF THE GOSPEL IN PAPUA: IFGF MANOKWARI PARTICIPATES IN BIBLE TRANSCRIPTION

On February 1, 2025, IFGF Manokwari took part in a major event organized by the West Papua Churches Fellowship (PGGP) to commemorate the 170th anniversary of the Gospel’s arrival in Papua, celebrated on February 5, 2025. The event brought together around 42 churches, all working collaboratively to transcribe the Bible—from Genesis to Revelation. This remarkable effort has been recorded in the Indonesian World Record Museum (MURI).

The Bible transcription began promptly at 9:00 am and lasted for 1 hour and 30 seconds. Prior to the start, the program opened with a group prayer, a gathering session, and preparation by all participants. The activity attracted a diverse crowd, including lecturers, students, teachers, farmers, fishermen, and taxi bike drivers.

In total, 3,870 people participated across 57 designated locations. IFGF Manokwari was assigned number 37, with 25 members of its congregation actively involved. They were tasked with transcribing the Book of Hosea, chapters 1 through 14, with each person responsible for copying 7 to 8 verses.

Along with the participants, facilitators were appointed at each site to oversee the event. Their responsibilities included distributing paper for transcription and ensuring that the completed writings were delivered to a central collection point. Each location had a lead facilitator, supported by several assistants, to ensure everything ran smoothly.

It was truly inspiring to see the enthusiasm of the participants and facilitators’ involvement. This event not only set a historic record but also motivated others to continue living out and spreading God’s word.
